Self-care is the latest buzzword.  Everyone is talking about it, but few are doing it.  This training will provide information on the elements of officer stress, how to effectively communicate with officers under stress, and how to do officer self care as a way to recover and promote resiliency.

Afternoon Session:  "Arlington Heights Negotiation Case Study"

Presented by:  Lt. Scott Tillema, Schaumburg Police Department

In Arlington Heights, Illinois, a man had been stalking his ex-girlfriend and tracked her to her mother’s home; where he entered, pulled a gun and started shooting.  The first responding police officer was shot in the neck by the hostage taker and went down inside the home.  This incident debrief brings in first hand perspectives, while offering insight and training tips for officers who may find themselves negotiating a similar situation.
