COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Negotiation Strategies for Detention and Corrections

This is a 40-hour course designed to prepare detention and correctional professionals to effectively manage inmate-driven crises, hostage situations, barricaded subjects, suicidal inmates, and other critical incidents within secure facilities. Building on IPTM's long-standing expertise in hostage and crisis negotiation training, the course emphasizes communication strategies, intelligence gathering, behavioral assessment, and coordinated team operations to support safe and successful resolutions. Designed for corrections personnel, law enforcement negotiators, detention staff, mental health professionals, and others who support correctional operations, the program is based on NCNA guidelines and meets most state and federal requirements for crisis and hostage negotiator certification. The course will be held July 19-23, 2027, in Jacksonville, Florida.
