Course Description: Case Study: Negotiation with a Teen at Elevated Risk
A teenage girl, worn down by years of family mistreatment and relentless bullying at school, struggled in silence with no support at home. After reaching a breaking point, she found her voice — and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was the first to truly hear her. What followed was a tense three-hour standoff on an I-95 overpass in the early morning hours, a moment that would alter the course of her life forever. This debrief explores how compassion, patience, and decisive crisis intervention helped guide a vulnerable young person from desperation toward hope
